10 Tips for Getting Through a Long-Haul Flight

Long haul flights are exhausting even if you are able to sleep during your flight because you may not be able to really get a comfortable relax. Therefore, to help refreshing yourself after the flight and enjoying your trip, we prepare some tips for you to get through it.

📍Bring a travel pillow and sleep mask

A silky sleep mask and a quality neck pillow can provide you a comfortable sleep. The KAO Megurhythm Steam Warm Eye Mask is also highly recommended. Your body and brain will thank you for every small comfort you can provide, and the inconvenience of packing and carrying these around is dwarfed by the misery of several hours in flight with a major crick in your neck.

📍Prepare a small note

Preparing a small note with "Wake me up for meals" or "Do not disturb when sleeping" to notify the crew is helpful to enjoy your sleep in the flight. You do not need to worry about missing the meals while sleeping with "Wake me up for meals". And if you do not want to have a meal, the crew will not wake you up when sleeping with "Do not disturb when sleeping". Some airlines will provide the stickers with notes, but in case, it's better to prepare it before.

📍Bring compression socks

Long-haul flights require many hours of sitting and restricted movement through minimal foot space. Keep yourself safe and comfortable by arming yourself with a pair of compression socks and simple leg exercises to improve circulation.

📍Bring your own headphones or earplugs

If you get on the flight without a noise-canceling headphone or earplugs, your flight full of crying children, pilot announcements, engine noise will make you annoyed and exhausted.

📍Bring dream water or other Melatonin products

Dream water and Melatonin products can help you fall asleep easily. But keep in mind, if you are planning to use sleep aids, try them before you fly with them. These drugs can vary greatly in how they affect individuals, so you will want to try them at home before you rely on them on the plane.

📍Do moisturize

Aircraft cabins are often very dry places and the chances of becoming dehydrated are high. Drink plenty of water slowly and regularly and avoid too much tea, coffee, and alcohol. Small samples for your daily moisturizer and lip balm are also necessities to keep your skin hydrated.

📍Bring a toothbrush and small toothpaste

When you feel struggled to fall asleep, brushing your teeth before nodding off—and, if you want, gargle mouthwash and wash your face. These simple but effective habits help trick your body into thinking it’s sleep time.

📍Prepare some snacks

Snacks like nuts, crackers, or candies could be good options. Even though most long flights offer meals, you may want to keep personal snacks on hand, especially when the meals in the flight are not to your taste or when the flight is delayed. And keep in mind, before preparing your snacks, check the regulations of your airline first.

📍Wear comfortable clothes

This should be a given – just think of an outfit that you’ll be happy to wear after ten hours sat on a plane. Remember, sitting still and being blasted by a powerful aircon system can get chilly, so wearing several loose layers are ideal to adjust your temperature as you fly.

📍Download movies/music on your own devices

Most airlines provide free movies, TV series, and music for their passengers. But you don't know whether the entertainment airline provides can satisfy your needs before getting on the flight. So, I highly recommend you to download some movies and music on your own devices.
